Avoid Stress before Examinations
- Revision Plan: It is never too late to make a revision plan or timetable. It will help you to prioritize. But be realistic!
- Regular Breaks: Schedule regular breaks and do take them. Most people can only concentrate fully for about 45 minutes time. After 45 minutes to 60 minutes, take a small break of about 5-10 minutes and just relax. Increase the length of breaks, as the day goes on, in case you are going for longer hours of study.
- ‘Peak Periods’: Don’t try to revise too long in one day. Try avoid revising during late nights. Work out most difficult subjects during your peak periods.
- Sleep: Try to get enough sleep, at least 6 hrs a day, but not more than 8 hrs a day. Tiredness promotes anxiety and over sleep promotes laziness. Spend some time unwinding before you go to sleep.
- Diet: Pay proper attention to your diet, take light food and lot of fluids in the form of water, juices, fruits etc. For more details refer EAT RIGHT TO BEAT STRESS.
- Exercise: A 10 minutes light exercise or a 20 minutes brisk walk everyday will help you to regain your energy.
- Relaxation: Make sure you spend some time relaxing and have fun, but not too much.
- Avoid Panicking People: Avoid panicking people, they are contagious, no post-mortems of exams after they are over.
- Quiet Area: Study in well lit, quiet area, away from noises and the people in the house. Make sure that your desk is neat, clean and well organized- it means that you must concentrate on studying and learning, not on trying to find information.
- Previous Examination Papers: Previous year Examination papers provide a useful insight into the examination pattern and the areas in which you need help. Practice under examination conditions. Apart from Previous year Examination, practice good quality mock test papers or model test papers also.
- Avoid Phone and Emails: They may distract you and divert your attention. If you have any mobile phones, keep them switched off or give it to anyone else in the family to handle it.
- Key Concepts: Write the key concepts of a chapter on a small sheet of paper followed by few examples, about how they are to be used. These can be used for last time revision.
- Writing Practice: Sufficient writing practice must be done before examinations in solving different questions in Mathematics and drawing diagrams in Science, writing important points in Social sciences, English and Hindi.
- Examination Results: Never fear Exams, they are not going to eat you. Instead on thinking about the examination results, concentrate on doing work for examinations.
- Relax: The quickest and the most effective way of eliminating stress is to close your eyes and take few deep breaths. It will help you to relax.
