SECTION – A

1.  Solve for x and y: 31/x + 43/y = 105/xy;         43/x + 31/y  =  117/xy

2. If the 12th term of an A.P. is –13 and the sum of first four terms is 24, find the A.P.

3. Simplify as one rational expression:                   x6 – 64
                                                                      x4 + 4x2 + 16

4. A T.V. is available for Rs.18000 cash or for Rs.6000 cash down payment along with 4 equal monthly instalments of Rs.3100 each. Find the rate of interest charged.

5. In an equilateral triangle ABC, D is a point on the side BC, such that    BD = 1/3 BC. Prove that 9AD2 = 7 AB2.

6. If (x2 – x + 6) is H.C.F. of polynomials p(x) = (x2 – 4x + 3)(x2 – 5x + a) and q(x) = (x2 + 5x + 6)(2x2 – 3x + b), find the values of a and b.
